Universum

Aristotelian conception of the universe

From Wikipedia:
This is a modification of the Flammarion Woodcut is an enigmatic woodcut by an unknown artist. It is referred to as the Flammarion Woodcut because its first documented appearance is in page 163 of Camille Flammarion's L'atmosphère: météorologie populaire (Paris, 1888), a work on meteorology for a general audience. The woodcut depicts a man peering through the Earth's atmosphere as if it were a curtain to look at the inner workings of the universe.

I first saw this work when I read Brian's post entitled Panentheism. Then, today Joe used it in his post today entitled Omniscience and Omnipresence: is God's Nature Contradictory?. Finally, i saw it also today in GodlessGrrl's post entitled Motivations of an Apostate: Truth vs. Reality.

When I first saw the picture I commented that I liked it and then tried to find a print of it, but all I can find is the Wikipedia image, there seem to be no larger reproductions. I've decided that the picture must be following me though since it keeps popping up. ;-)
