Why can't we all just get along?

OK, the title of this post is sort of tongue in cheek, but it's a serious question. Early this year I deconverted from Christianity for reasons I've gone into in other places, but will not address in this post. Since then I've had some terrific discussions with people from all sorts of different faith viewpoints and I've been troubled by the anger and hatred in some of these discussions.

I fully understand how frustrating it is when someone on either side says they are 100% correct. I also understand that there are trolls on both sides and sometimes it's hard not to respond to them and feed them.

I just set up this blog and bought the domain name atheists-and-christians.com, which currently redirects here, because I want to create a place where atheists and theists, not just Christians, can discuss their ideas and actually try to understand each others viewpoint and perhaps (gasp!) actually get along!

I'm investigating some forum software and we'll see where this goes. Maybe nowhere, perhaps it's an exercise in futility.

I may also seek other contributors to this blog if they are of like mind in regards to the goals of this site, Atheists, Christians or people of any religious or nonreligious persuasion would be welcome.
